My alarm goes off at 5:40, I hit snooze
I get up at 5:50 remembering that my husband is going to leave for a camping trip today and he will be stumbling around to pack. I make coffee and bring in the paper and wait for him to show his face.
Realizing I did not have to rush off to work, I sipped coffee, read the paper, and worked the suduko while J., half asleep packed for his trip. When he was done, he joined me at the table and we chatted till he had to leave. I followed him out the door and headed to work.
I arrived at work at 8:00, I was an hour late, but my coworker had the guys on their routine. I work in a waiver home with three handicapped gentlemen. After bathing, breakfast, dressing, I took one of my gentlemen to the Dr. where we had a 30 minute wait. It was really hard on him to sit still. He wanted to fidget and move around. To the disgust of everyone in the waiting room, he kept picking his nose. Once we went back to see the Dr., he was calmer. We left the Dr. and went back to the house and picked up the other two guys and my coworker. I am the only van driver they have, so any opportunity to leave the house, we do. We went for a ride in the country with the radio blaring. It was a beautiful day. We drove for an hour then decided to grab lunch and go back home. Eating out is their favorite thing to do. After we get back to their house, I finish household chores till it is time to leave for the day.
At 3:00 I leave work and head back to Muncie for my youth group. I run a nonprofit for LGBTQ youth. It meets every Friday. We had a prom the Saturday before with 120 kids and I was hoping that it would bring in more youth to our youth group. Several people brought food for our family meal. I greeted them at the door and helped carry food to the kitchen. I unlocked doors and set up the rooms. People started arriving early. They like to gather early just to talk about their week or a situation they are in.
Youth group starts at 5:00, because people are always late, we wait till 5:15. We start each meeting with a check in. Each youth shares something good and something bad about their week. 27 kids & volunteers show up. The check in is a little extended. Some youth talk a lot while others not so much. We eat a family meal together and then we have game night. The youth take a parachute outside and start a game of I Love My Neighbor. One of our youth is a drama student and they lead everyone in improv games. It was a great night with lots of laughter and high energy. While they played games, several of us cleaned up after the meal, packing leftover food for the youth to take home.
We end at 8:00, but people linger to talk and I am usually waiting on a parent to come pick their kid up.
I am able to head home at 9:15. I am happy to come home to an empty house and I am excited to be able to put the toilet seat down and know it will stay that way till Sunday evening. I put on my PJs and I look forward to watching some TV. I try to stay awake to watch the beginning of Colbert, but I wake up on the couch and it is after midnight. I go to bed.
