Diarist A30 Day10

Diary Entry

12-15-18

Today started off the way I like to start my days; with some exercise. I awoke around 5:30 AM to head into the YMCA to play some basketball with a group of guys I have been playing with for years. It’s good competition and fellowship and today was fun. It’s always nice knowing you have gotten your exercise in for the day before 7:30 roles around. I feel pretty energetic today after a few sluggish days.

I get home to spend a few minutes with my family before I have to shower and be at a church board meeting at 9 AM. I don’t mind going to these board meetings. In fact, I actually look forward to having them because they seem needed right now. Our church has been through a lot of transition lately and at times seems like we face an uncertain future. That’s tough for me as someone who not only sees the importance of practicing faith in a community, but also as someone who makes his living through vocational ministry.

The meeting goes well and a lot of important topics are at least initiated. Our board is newly formed with a bunch of wonderful leaders. I feel it is a group that can really help lead us through some difficult times.

Now that I am home, I am looking forward to a pretty slow day. The week before has been a bit hectic, and now I can spend some time playing with family. It’s about 11 AM and I spend the next two hours on the floor with my kids before their naptime arrives. And the best thing about their naptime? It can also be my naptime. I catch a few minutes of rest, and it turns out to be just what I needed to be mentally present the rest of the day.

My kids went home sick from daycare yesterday. They have both been running a low-grade fever and have noses that won’t quit running. That leads us to making this a nice, slow day at home where we can enjoy each other. We don’t get too many of these, and so we try to enjoy them while we can. I will admit, with a 3 year old and a 1 year old, some moments are more enjoyable than others, but overall, we have a nice relaxing day playing games, watching some football, baking Christmas sweets and just spending quality time with one another.

The afternoon goes quickly and before I know it, it is time for the kids to get ready for bed. Bedtime is always interesting and is quite a process, but tonight the kids down relatively easily. I am sure their sickness has something to do with that.

Rarely are we home in the evening with enough time to watch a movie, but we put on Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” and enjoy a nice quiet night. I enjoyed the movie. As a child of the 80’s, it had many great references from my childhood, and even though it was long, and I was tired, we made it through.

I end my night with a few things to wrap up for church in the morning. I am not speaking tomorrow, so that made today more relaxing for sure.
