Digital Community Engagement: Award Edition

Last September we told you about our contribution to Digital Community Engagement: Partnering Communities with the Academy, a volume of essays that explored the ways that academics were using digital tools and technologies to collaborate with the public to produce new scholarship.  We’re excited to announce that the book recently received the National Council on Public History’s 2021 Book Award. The editors of the volume are Rebecca S. Wingo, (University of Cincinnati) Jason A. Heppler (University of Nebraska at Omaha),?and?Paul Schadewald (Macalester College) and the book is available freely through its publisher, the University of Cincinnati Press here. As Wingo explained, the chapter on EDLM showed how we can use digital tools to “assemble a community that otherwise didn’t see themselves as a community,” a description we appreciate.

Have a look at the book.  You’ll find projects that use digital methods to explore civil rights activism, neighborhood histories, farmworkers’ lives, and homelessness, among other topics.  We’re glad to be a part of it.
