Diary Day October 1, 2019
9:10am. I wake up at 7am. Everyday. My husband J sets his alarm for 6:30am. I was sleeping in the spare room this morning because my cough would keep him awake. My grandson L who is six years old has been coughing for a couple of weeks. I was determined not to get it and. Now I feel just awful. I don’t think that I should have been sending him to school last week…
The first thing out of his mouth this morning was Happy October Gramma. I hope that I can maintain my attitude today. We reread his AR books after breakfast.
After dropping him off at school I hurry home to an 8:00am. Appointment. I cough through most of it and realize that I should not be working today. I apologize and quickly call my 9:30am. He says that he doesn’t care.
10:35am. I am exhausted after two sessions.
Noon It took me an hour and a half to call clients and cancel my day. I hope I didn’t miss anyone. I call a couple of my friends who are massage therapists hoping to get an appointment right now. I am scheduled to fly to Denver on Friday to sit with my grand-daughter while her parents are busy going two different directions. I think that a massage might help me to move the sickness through.
I am able to get in at 12:30pm.
2:00pm. I begin taking supplements that I wish I had started two days ago. I run a hot bath.
2:45pm. I leave to pick up L at school.
5:00pm. L was hungry after school and I hadn’t eaten all day. He only got one discipline circle for talking out of turn. The easy answer was yes we can eat at Applebees and do homework. He was excited and good humored during the math problems. He literally danced down the aisles entertaining the other patrons with his moves. Then, half way through the meal he turns to me and says “Did Daddy like pizza?” Yes, I say and ice cream. “Yay! He says. “I want to be like Daddy.” When we got home, J was already here and I canceled yoga class and music night.
6:45pm. I am heading to bed after another hour of reading and spelling homework. I decline L’s invitation for a bike ride to Burris playground and agree that he can knock on the neighbor’s door and play outside until dark.
Someone shows up for yoga who I forgot about and someone also shows up to play music even though we canceled. J has to drive him home.
8:00pm. L takes a shower without my help. And settles in for “Pete the Cat” stories.
J comes home and makes some food for he and L and tucks L in for a second time.
10:00pm. I go downstairs and take some more herbs and apologize to J for not being well and present to him. I will be busy for most of October with activities away from home. After going to Denver to help my daughter and then a couple of weeks helping my eighty-three year old Dad with his business after losing his wife of forty-one years to lung cancer, this cold is a minor inconvenience. October turns out to be a financial wash for me all told. This is the nature of self employment. I am really lucky and grateful that my husband of only three years is a patient, tolerant, hardworking man who doesn’t flinch at the never ending drama that my life seems to provide. I am watching “Outlanders” on my laptop in bed by myself.
