Diarist B35 Day 26

i woke up just before 0500. not unusual for me and actually a bit later than i have woken up recently. i quietly gathered myself and Things Needed from my bedside table and slipped out the bedroom door, doing my best not to disturb my partner or our two sleeping dogs.

i grabbed a breakfast bar and headed out to the far end of our house that i can close off so i do not disturb anyone else. i greeted one of our cats and settled in to watch some tv and work through the NYT puzzles as i do every morning. earlier this year, i lost my several hundreds days streak with Wordle when i logged into a new device. after a while, my partner texted me from the bedroom (luxury or curse of modern society?) about letting the dogs out. i opened the door and whistled. they came skittering down the hall. i had to coax our youngest to the door because the older dog noped back to bed. the youngest stepped outside, realized it was raining, remembered she is made of sugar, and stood at the door looking forlornly in at me. i let her in but scolded her for acting the diva.

i then got dressed and went to work. i spent the day there as usual. nothing out of the ordinary happened but it did become somewhat hectic by the end of the day. i did come home for lunch. i let the dogs out and ate something simple, then went back.

i found out that the Onion purchased InfoWars today and cackled gleefully at the ironic justice. in other news, my partner spoke with our vet about one of our cat’s lab results and how they indicate arthritis and maybe an infection or stress response. a bit unexpected but he is getting older.

after work:

the dogs greeted me enthusiastically and i let them out in the yard while i greeted the cats. they came back in, i changed clothes, and then rummaged around for dinner stuff. most nights i cook but this was a leftover night or “the cook’s night off so obtain your own meal” night. i spoke with my son for some time about current events, conversations he’s had with certain family members recently, the nature and definition of the word fact, and several other things on our minds. he opted to go get his dinner from a fast food place. i cobbled my own dinner together from leftovers and snacky stuffs. then my partner came home and they made their own dinner as well. we talked for just a bit and then settled in for some tv-time. i could not keep my eyes open and ended up going to bed very early – but it felt cruel to force myself to stay awake. this week had apparently worn me out.

not an untypical day but definitely a quieter one with less to document. of course, all of this occurred within the cloud of nerve gas still hovering malevolently around our heads and hearts from the recent national political fiasco.
