Diarist B35 Day12

i got up early for some reason. i think i was too hot. i’ve also been nursing a sinus infection turned chest cold that’s been waking me up sporadically. i started antibiotics last night though. my wife got through it pretty much unscathed but my son has had it and it’s settled in his ears.

anyway, i got up earlier than usual (mostly), ate some homemade scones with homemade clotted cream and black current jam, watched part of an episode of a show on Netflix, did my morning word puzzle on my phone, rolled my son out of bed, let the doggo out, and generally made ready for the day. after i dropped my son off at school i went on to find a parking spot at work.

the mornings are dark again because we are moving into the short-dayed part of the year. however, it wasn’t particularly cool this morning. humidity is up and the expected temps today are in the 90s. not pleasant. i’m glad i work in an air-conditioned environment. it’s quiet, too.

work work work. busy busy busy.

lunch with the wife as usual. this will be our last one this week because i will be way too busy at work the next three days and she also has a workshop or seminar to go to one of those days – double whammy. we’ve been eating out too much at lunch but the weather has been way too hot and mosquito-ey for us to sit at the park and we’ve gotten out of the habit of making lunch at home before leaving. it’s been very hard to resume the practice. still, we want to spend that time together if we can. we were going home every day when she worked on the north side of town but she was moved to the south side which is 20 minutes away instead of 5 and so we’ve been relegated to meeting for lunch at a central spot.

the afternoon slid by at work and then i drove home. the door from the garage to the house was open and our big, grey cat was in the garage. the dog was not far behind her. i honked as i pulled in slowly and they ran back inside. phew. the other cats weren’t in the garage, i made sure. they are all inside cats and would not know how to survive if they got out and the garage has lots of nooks and crannies that could be dangerous for them.

i came inside and quickly got ready for martial arts that evening. i always go early to help with the lower belt classes. my son decided to stay home yet again because of his sinus infection so i went on alone. Two and a half hours later, i was home again. my wife was home, too, and had ordered Chinese food because “cooking was just not appealing tonight.” fine with me! no worries on that.

so, i ate and then crashed on the couch with a beer. my wife and i talked about the recent news out of the White House and about some other article on the “most miserable cities in the US” and how it was simply inflammatory clickbait based off of skewed and unsound research methodologies. my son was doing some online gaming fairly loudly in the next room and we had to shut the door. he came in eventually and we all watched the next episode of the new Dark Crystal show on Netflix. he also played hard with the dog – we had already drained the battery on the laser pointer earlier because the dog LOVES it do much we joke that he has a real problem.

i was exhausted but my son was tired, too, after having gone back to school for the first time in a week and he beat me to bed. my wife and i soon followed. it was close to 23:00. we stayed up talking for a little while longer but i succumbed and slept.
